The story of our firm began in 1988 when Alain Youkel established Architecture International, P.C. in New York City after gaining valuable working experience in well-known architectural practices in London and New York. Alain Youkel was educated in England and received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in architecture from Polytechnic of Central London.  Mr. Youkel is a member of Royal Institute of British Architects, American Institute of Architects, and Ontario Association of Architects.  Mr. Youkel’s multi-cultural background, lifestyle, and international experiences have greatly influenced his architectural expressions. His love of painting and outdoors has developed into a lifelong passion for architecture and environmental consciousness.

In 1993, the practice moved to Vermont where a strong focus on resort and residential architecture began to develop.  Mr. Youkel’s design sensibilities and expertise in the planning of residential and resort communities, with emphasis on the art of “placemaking”, has led to an important and enduring professional partnership with Intrawest Group of companies. Lemay+Youkel, a partnership with one of the largest and most respected architectural firms in Canada, was formed in 2001 to better address the growing international resort markets. The unique and extensive experiences gained from this and other ventures have led to a more focused approach in creation of value through good design and sustainable architecture.
